day :33
[ Pidge is a bit distracted. She's been working her job and trying to figure out how to find things and the combination has been a bit exhausting. Especially since she's tiny and some of the aliens she's had to try and deal with have been much, much larger. Still, she's found time to get away and despite the note of exhaustion, there's something triumphant in her mental tone. ]
( Hey, I found out where they're keeping the prizes! They've got it on some sort of ship, way out in the system, behind one of the moons- )
[ And here everyone is treated to a mental image of a sprawling, edge-master looking ship that's been finished rose gold chrome. Sort of a contradiction. ]
( It's called "The Fair Heart" and apparently it used to be some kind of prison ship. "Sorrowful Death Hole" or something. Uh, either way, it's where they're keeping the prizes until later in the competition.
I think we should go out there and grab them. )

[ By which he means that sounds exactly like something - well, like something Sam himself would do, but Sam's not the one in this competition. ]

[She's got a very vivid memory of Jack, fresh out of cryo, and ready to rip the whole station apart with her raw, unamplified biotics, her emotional issues, and nothing else, not even an escape plan. That they had not been really friends at the time, was not important.]
( What about you, Sam? I mean, you know I'm all about dance floors and robot boxing, but... )
[But she's a lot more about walking next to people she trusts, right into trouble.]

[ He's teasing - kind of. But more seriously: hell yeah he wants to go. But he also knows the Nest, or at least most of them. ]
( Depends on who's going, depends on what we got waiting for us and how much we know about it. Ideally we'd have an idea of what security measures are gonna be waiting for us and can tailor a team to it, slightly less ideally we ain't sure what we got and we go for small with a lot of firepower and a varied skill set. Realistically? ) [ There's a huff of wry amusement across the mental link. ] ( This ain't the military, or even really a cohesive team. There's a lot of people who feel like they got something to prove, who'll wanna go out there even if they're not the best for the job, or if there's already too many on the team for a quick grab and go. I'm not one of them. )

[Shepard falls silent for a moment, thinking quietly about crushing waves and Salarian spies. Ashley Williams had died on Virmire, but the mission itself had been a success. Did that give Shepard the right to ask someone else to die that way?]
( If it were me. I'd split them into teams. Pilots to distract the outer defenses, and no less than two teams to go in, one open strike team, one shadow team. The problem is, if people can't depend on their teams, or if they don't communicate... ) [They get cut off. They die. It's a tough target, and it requires an expert attack] ( Might be able to do it with a stealth run, but if you fuck up even once, you better be good enough to kill anything you meet. )
[She's genuinely thinking about this. Then again, if she'd still ben operating from the Normandy, Shepard wouldn't have hesitated.]
( That's not even bringing up extraction. I hate that you're right about this; it's a shitshow without unit cohesion. Tempting though. )

[ A warble of interruption. Annie's mental voice isn't the most cohesive, it's a difficult skill for her, not just as a new host, but because of what she is on the inside, the thing her human form doesn't suggest. That she's kind of a spooky eldritch alien planet on the inside. Hard to pull that all into a voice. Harder still to keep off the discomforting side-effects of her unearthliness. It's not precisely comfortable connecting with her. ]
( There's at least two of you with your shit together, where's the rest of them? )
no subject
( I'm not sure "experienced combatant, ready and willing to take direction and work with others" is exactly one of the pre-requisites for being here. )
[She doesn't know who this is, not really-- but the comment, however impertinent, is relevant. How many of them, assuming they could figure it out with any confidence, would be capable of a Spectre-sized operation like this?]
( Look around. Kind of a mixed bag. )

[ Possibly her own fault, she'd made the mistake of thinking the people who already had their boots on the ground would have done some of this intel already. Wasn't expecting the surprise, now she knows better. Won't be the same mistake twice. ]
( My dream scenario here is stealth, maybe even replacing this fuckin' prize with a replica so nobody even knows it's gone to look for it. )

[Shepard doesn't sound too confident. But then, Ilde wouldn't need the words or the tone to catch Shepard's real meaning; don't send anyone we're not comfortable losing.]
( Tall order. But, I'm open to suggestions-- I love it when I'm wrong. )
no subject
[ Annie has a similar sentiment: don't send resources you're not comfortable losing, and right now with her lack of knowledge on the other hosts and their skills, she's not real comfortable losing a ship she herself could potential fly. ]
( We got a dossier on whose brain-bugs do what? Now that'd be fuckin' useful, am I still dreamin' too big? )
no subject
[Shepard's own ability is of limited use to her, as it is. She decides not to go into details.]
( Personally, so long as we don't get caught, it hardly matters who knows that we did it. We don't have to live in this galaxy, after all, we're just visiting. )

The agreement doesn't fade when she keeps talking. Everything she's saying is something he'd think about, too - up to and including the problem. Already he can hear fighting across the mental link, but he's keeping out of it. ]
( And a ground team, some people still staying in the competition and those of us with inside access trying to distract as much as possible to keep their attention down here and not looking at anything that might be going on up there. )
[ Tempting as hell, considering infiltration and extraction used to be what he did, before he retired and became a superhero. He doesn't say that - but he doesn't have to for the knowledge to flow over their connection. ]
( I'll wait and see who chimes in, maybe there'll be something to work with. )

[ Pidge sounds a bit strained. There's a lot of background chatter going on in her head right now and her thoughts are a touch distracted. ]
( I'm not sure we can have a flying distraction, though. )
no subject
[ His mental voice is a little muted - yeah, he can hear all that chatter going on in the background. He might not be chiming in, but he's keeping an eye on it, and he wants to keep from adding to her mental chaos at the moment. ]
( We'll work with what we've got, if it comes to it. Too bad it's in space, or I could handle the flying part all on my own. )
no subject
[But it's a lot better than nothing.]
( What about Shiro for air support? He's got... enthusiasm going for him. He is a pilot, right? )
no subject
[ Cocky, maybe - but he learned to fly with wings, and as easy and intuitive as it looks, it sure as hell isn't. He's confident in his skills and he knows he's got the ability to back it up.
He hums thoughtfully at her suggestion. ]
( Up to him, but we'll need a pilot hanging back to get the extraction team out of there quick. If I was there, I'd rather count on him to get everyone out. )
no subject
(And he's going with Pidge.)
