earthborn: (know yourself)

[Hoo boy.]

( You don't need to understand how most tech works, just to use it. )

[Amateurs at the game of chess are occasionally harder to beat than those of middling knowledge, because they know just enough to operate, and none of what might make them predictable. Better to face skill than luck, as it were. The metaphor holds true for a lot of situations.]

( Besides, all of us look like children next to what's gone into the Station. )

[It's strange, to Shepard, and leaves her disgruntled, that she's somehow so far ahead of most, on the tech-tree... So few people here have species capable of reliable spaceflight. And among those that do, they're missing the things Shepard associates with that status; extra-solar colonies, faster-than-light travel, regular diplomatic contact between races... hell, the beurocracy had been a pain in the ass, but it had represented something important. Stability. Mutual obligation to one another.

In her worldview, humans are scrappy and tough and smarter than anyone gives them credit for. In this one, her version of humans are like aliens themselves, advanced by comparison to even the next-runners-up. It's a little unsettling.

( We're all learning something, these days. )
