Because we love what we are. [She says it as if it's a small thing, as if it's simply undeniable, as if there's nothing beautiful or terrible in it (though it's both).]

We want this place to live and we want the beings in it to be happy. And we believe there is good to be done here, not just for our continued survival but for the preservation of other places. We believe the multiverse and the people in it deserve to be observed and their intended trajectories protected. But mostly, we act as guardian because we want the answer to why this place is here and the circumstances which have led to us being driven to it. We have been the most willing to push ourselves to any length to understand.

[One upon a time, a woman wanted to know how she came to a place beyond her universe. And if this mind is now an aggregate of countless others like what that woman once was, what does that mean? What does every Host have in common? Is it fear of the thing that lies at the edge of the universe? Is it missing someone or something? Or is it this: desiring to know. After all, has there ever been a Host who came to Station 72 without questions?

How do you understand what lies at the center of the labyrinth? You go there.

--Don't you?]
