We advocate for exile. Or imprisonment. Make them live with the knowledge that their scheming wasn't airtight, they were caught, and now they have to face a just fate. Forcing them to live with their failure and reflect on their decisions is better than allowing them to escape it all through death. No death, no killing. None of it. Everybody lives, the bad guys are punished.
