( Hardly. If things go poorly here - worse than they have already -, there is no easy extraction. Were the Enemy to discover our presence here, we would find ourselves easily marooned. It's simply a matter of convenience; the ship can only make so many runs and maintain its secrecy, but mostly: it was convenient to the purpose of our work for anyone who was willing to assume that they must participate to do so.

But no, I don't believe the work has ever been compulsory. Simply... necessary.)
