WHERE: The streets of Concordia
WHEN: Dusk til just before dawn on DAY 040
SUMMARY: IT'S A PARADE
WARNINGS: Add them to your top levels as necessary etc etc
As from the calendar:
Confetti! It's a parade! The annual Arista Parade, to be precise. Nominally a part of Aristana, the celebration of the ribbons of life, it's a holiday who's origins are nearly forgotten. Nowadays it's a big, raucous celebration pretty dedicated much entirely to drinking and partying. Almost all those in attendance will be wearing ribbons tied around their hair, their wrists, off of their belts and the edges of their sleeves. Pull one off, and you will be rewarded with a kiss - on the cheek, usually. The parade itself showcases a number of performers, costumes, and moving art pieces. It's route covers a number of the main streets of town (which will be closed, sorry traffic), and it lasts from dusk till nearly dawn on DAY :040. Have fun, if it's your kind of scene.
From the mods:
No notable NPCs are present at the parade - at least not in any official capacity. However if anyone wants to interact with a Concordian native, feel free to make up/interact with any randos you feel like!
Feel free to use this log for all of your parade day activities!

[ That's the only explanation for the amount of clothes in the bags - people who don't have any clothes to start with, but this is coming from a guy who owns like four of the same shirts and two pairs of slacks at most. No one would ever accuse Steve 'Khaki Beige' Rogers of being stylish. ]

[ ilde needs clothes because giorno firmly believes that a pop idol should look bombastic and fabulous as hell, and angel, well, she looks good in anything. ]
I've decided to be an informal mentor to them of sorts. [ giorno is saying as they make their way to his room. ] You see, everyone needs a primer about the finer things. Clothes and perfumes and - well, everything else. And I happen to be very good at all of that.
[ he glances at steve, and then very kindly, he says, ] I can extend my services to you as well! All is not lost, Steve.
[ YOU OBVIOUSLY NEED HELP. ]
omg
Okay, maybe Giorno a little more than the others, but -
he frowns, standing in the doorway to the kid's room. ]
What's wrong with my clothes? [ He glances down at them, confused. His current attire consists of plain sweater and plain slacks, not a damn notable thing about either except they look like they've been through the wash about a half dozen too many times, all original color muted. ]
u thot u were safe
it is, perhaps, rather shallow of giorno compared to most things that he obsesses with. but he is used to growing up in a place where power leaks out of the body, and that includes the clothes that one wears. everything about the mafia is convention and form, even in its most violent iterations. there is plenty of meaning in the kind of outfit one brings into a fight. ]
Nothing, if only for the fact that it's not entirely honest about who you are.
Presentation is everything! You have a certain look and you can't tell me you don't know how that can be used. [ he is maybe pointing at his face, darkly amused. ] In a world where everything hinges on this thing that binds us all together, how you present yourself is crucial. It's probably the one thing that you have the most control over. You cannot control how people will react to you. But you can control how they see you, and that is important.
[ and giorno, who knows a thing or two about literally fashioning an identity considering that's practically his life, knows a thing or two about presentation.
(he could've added, of course, that steve can always control how people see him. the symbiote makes a lot of things possible. but it's clear that he didn't want to, otherwise that first session they had would've turned out a lot more differently.) ]
Now, I can tell you like convenience and being comfortable in general where your clothes are concerned. [ this is his nice way of saying "you look kind of boring." ] But there are ways to convey that without having to resort to the same kind of outfits all the time. For one thing, you can start wearing a sweater that fits your frame better. For another, you could tailor those pants. You can also fix your posture. You tend to slouch sometimes, it's terrible.
If you take the time to dress better, not only will you look more attractive, but you will also feel good about yourself. One of my best friends happens to be rather deadly in his Gucci cashmere sweater. I'm pretty sure his outfit costs more than my education, and yet he rocks it anyhow. It can be done, Steve. [ DREAM. BELIEVE. SURVIVE. ]

Once his hands are free he shoves his hands in his pockets, shoulders starting to shrug forward... he's quick to straighten them again.
He doesn't slouch that much.
His face scrunches up when Giorno mentions the price tag. ]
You're kidding, right? [ Who spends that much on clothes? A quick shake of his head. ] I mean - sure, I guess I could get these taken in a little... [ He gives one leg a shake, looking down at it with a frown. The bottom of the pants are rolled up above his shoes so that they don't drag on the ground. After a second his gaze lifts so that he can eye Giorno again. ]

what he does do, though, is to kneel so as to adjust the cuffs on his pants. ]
If you must roll your pants, fold a corner of the leg into a diagonal, like so - [ and he demonstrates it, right before he makes two folds of the hem. he smooths the cuff as he folds it upwards. ] - stay away from boots or anything with a thick sole if you're going to do this kind of cuff, otherwise it'd look ugly.
[ he does the other leg as well, whether steve likes it or not. when he is done, he stands up and brushes the dirt from his pants, which, unlike steve's, were tailored to his own figure and were specifically made so that he can actually fight in them. the cut is a bit higher compared to most trousers, but it's been modified to look the way his uniform did back home. ]
No matter. I am always right in the end. [ hmph. ]

Right - thanks.
[ He turns his leg around, eyeing it. Okay, maybe that does look a bit better this way. A short sigh and he plants his foot back on the ground, lifting his gaze to look at Giorno again. ]
How'd you get so big into this stuff? [ 'Stuff' being expensive fashion. His tone is more curious than judgey, even if he's still squinting a bit. ]

I didn't realize it was such a big deal, [ giorno confesses. ] Back home, it's just a thing that everyone understood to be part of themselves. I make a big deal out of it because it's a habit that can be useful, but not a lot of people utilize it very well here.
When you go to work, you dress like the way you want to be perceived, but also because you belong in that place. When you go to meet someone you're comfortable with, you dress in the kind of suit you feel like you're at your best. When you have an important meeting, you change into something a bit more formal. And so on. You don't realize it, but you - dress yourself in the way that you feel would make the most or least amount of impact in the kind of company you keep. You shut yourself off in the kinds of clothes you cover yourself with.
We bare our souls, back home, to those whom we trust, and to those with whom we are ready to fight with our lives. Every battle I've been in has always been personal that way. That's not the same here. But think about it: in the myriad of voices that are in our heads, what do you want to define yourself as 'you'? [ he taps the side of his head. ] We have names for our brood and the thing that has attached to our heads, and the control that we have over others' influence in our minds fluctuate depending on our mental skills. We can't all be like Prince or Cathaway.
How do you want to be known as 'Steve'? You don't have to answer that right now. But you can start with your clothes. [ a tilt of the head. ] Anyone can dress in khakis and a plain white shirt. If your objective was to become forgettable, then you've achieved that. Bravo.
But that isn't your objective. I know this because you're always involved with missions, and you try your best to help people who come to you. [ he bases this off of what he's seen him do in the bearings and his personal experience with steve. ] I was new to the hive and yet you let me practice with you anyway. That takes courage, and a certain recklessness to begin with.
You want a certain sensibility to come with your comfort. You have a history you bring with you - everyone does. And the way you always communicate those things is with your appearance, first and foremost. And that is why you have to start with your clothes.

The only time I ever imagined myself in different clothes was when I was trying to get enlisted. [ And that was a uniform. A very specific one - not meant to stand out, but to be part of something else. Something bigger. There's a flicker of an image, available if Giorno's mind is open.
He never got to be a soldier. He's not sure what to call himself now or even how he wants to be known. ] And here in the city I figured it was better not standing out.
