He scrubs his face. Way to go, Ulric. There's a world of things he could say, all of them things he believes to be too true, reasons that he's gotten himself nearly killed more than three times.

There's a pause as he tries to arrange his next words. It's always been his ass on the line, anyway. He's walked alone, as much as he was on the Glaive, as much of a good soldier that remains to be.

A hero because he does so much stupid shit on his own trying to save everyone else.]

( I can't... not do anything. Even if I hate them. )

[ It's as bad as Noctis being sincere with her about her continued value despite her closed portal, despite all the people she hasn't saved, despite all the times she's fucked up-- She's fine with any topic of conversation, especially disgusting ones, but she can't handle a nice word directed at her person with anything resembling grace. ]

He drains a cup of coffee, black as the night, deciding this isn't a fight he's really going to pick. Neither of them were going to change, that much he could deduce.]

[ A friendly scoff, like she didn't just reject his reassurances, didn't just get gut sick over what he's supposed to mean to her. Sometimes she's just hopeless with this emotion shit. ]

[He'll keep on with the conversation, letting her lead it. He's never been the sort to pry into affairs, much less the ones it seems she's trying to avoid. It's all on her, not him, at least right now.]

( I did not attack you, ok, that is slander. You told me you were good at fighting and gee, golly, I like fighting too so we fought and told yo' momma jokes and then we kissed and made up, it was fine. )

[ It's a good skill to have with her, to learn how to lean out of a topic before she gets herself too upset. She'd eventually duck out herself. Usually 'I'm gonna go get coffee' abruptly inserted into the middle of a tense conversation is code for not being able to deal. ]

( I agreed to spar when we got to the training room and you decided to start it sooner instead of later. That's kind of an attack. )

[Nyx is, at the very least, perceptive, one to follow his heart and his instincts. When the time comes, maybe he'll call her on it. There's no reason for it now.]
