( the hatchening | closed to bellamy and noctis )[ At first, Bellamy thinks he's broken it somehow in the transition. Can you take this? There's something else I want to do, he'd asked after having come across Noctis in the hall. There's only so long anyone could hold an egg, and Bellamy finished in the library. He'd meant to pawn the egg on the first willing party he found, and go to the training wing. Instead, as he extends the egg towards Noctis, there's an audible crunching noise. Bellamy stalls, looking down to where both his hands and egg are poised over Noctis' outstretched hands. ]( the baby shower | ota )
Is it...leaking?
[ Something is dripping, slick over Bellamy's hands and splattering over Noctis' upturned palms. It's black. Bellamy's thoughts flicker to nightblood and Ontari, chest split open and Murphy and Abby's arms stained black to the elbow with her blood. It's a gruesome image, even if it only lingers for a split second before obvious worry over what's happened to the egg crowds it out of his head. ]
Was this supposed to hatch?
[ Surely someone would have been keeping track of when it was supposed to hatch. The idea that it's happened by chance is worrisome, though Bellamy's afraid to move in case he makes the situation worse, even if it's to go find Cathaway or Prince to try to foist the splintering egg off on them. His mind latches hard onto Noctis, fretfully wrenching his attention to the matter at hand as if Noctis isn't already attentive enough. ][ They're stuck.
This becomes very obvious about five minutes in, after the initial panic has settles. For all intents and purposes, Bellamy and Noctis are holding hands. They have six little legs wrapped from wrist to wrist, with six tiny sets of claws to pinch each time they try to detach. To be fair, neither of them have tried very hard upon mutual agreement.
At least the dripping has stopped.
Feel free to bump into them and remark upon their snoozing appendage's charming visage. ]

[ The vast stretch of the library seems like it would have to include some useful information about the little creature. And Prince has likely had ages to read through it. ]
You don't think the answer is back on Shril?
[ Bellamy directs the question aloud to Noctis without thinking about it. The fraying distinction between spoken word and pointedly directed thoughts is something to be worried about, but Bellamy can only be worried about one thing at a time. ]

She recalls seeing the egg in the days after they left.]
But there is a reason why we went there to get it. If the answer doesn't lie with Cathaway herself, she may know where to find it.

Then we'll just have to hope she's ghosting around here somewhere.
[He uses the phrase with purpose. Stumbling across Cathaway always felt like an accident, even if they do make it a point to search for her specifically.]
It must've been a prize for a reason. Either it's rare or useful in some way. [He pauses, though, realizing how useless such a statement is.] Hopefully not too dangerous to anyone here.

It's too late to ask the people who organized the event.
[ And half the Nest wouldn't be welcomed back to Shril in any case. But Lexa's right: the turnover had likely already happened, and there's no telling if the event organizers had stayed on the planet. It would be a wasted enterprise. ]
You haven't heard of anything that looks like this? In your legends?
[ It's actually remarkable that it took this long for Bellamy to ask about grounder mythology. ]

Just the same, the mythology is so shallow that she almost thinks that Bellamy is asking Noctis that question instead of her. It takes her a moment to register that she's incorrect.]
I believe if we had anything like this, you would be the first to know. [That's ... not a very long answer, but Lexa is more startled that she's been asked than anything. Yes, they have mythology, but it's so far removed from ... this.]

He's a little disappointed, but not surprised, when there's no information to be had. Regardless, the curiosity's still there, though he figures right now isn't the time nor the place to ask about it. He can indulge himself in the mythologies of another culture when the situation is not quite as... awkward as it is now.]
Well, if you remember anything, be sure to let us know. In the meanwhile, I guess we'll just let it sleep.
