[ Nyx Ulric slipping from her grasp is like a sun blinking out, her skyline gone suddenly dark, her world gone suddenly cold. [ Somewhere in the physical world, she shows little of her internal distress. Still as stone in her robes staring out into the distance, jaw grit, fists clenched. ]

[ Asuka doesn't want this. She doesn't want any of this. Not the all-encompassing feeling of sickening, horrible, cruel love, not that way it seems to loom over her. She pushes back, throwing up walls and trying to metaphorically backpedal. ]

( Annie, get a grip already! You're freaking me out! )

[ An inhaled breath, a hesitation. No, that's not what she wants. She doesn't want to do this to another little girl-- How many others has she done this to. How many nightmares and horrors has she set loose on those helpless enough to be near her. Great reptilian eyes blink, inner eyelids sticking. An exhaled breath.

An entire universe sitting still on the far side of a fragile barrier. ]

( Are you betrayed? )

[ Disappointed in her, disgusted by her? ]

[ Betrayed? Betrayed by what? By whom? She doesn't know what Annie is talking about and she doesn't know what that alien, strange presence lurking beneath the sirface is. It frightens her. ]

( Betrayed by what? I don't understand! )

[ There's confusion and hurt and worry spinning through her head. ]

( -- Her -- )

[ Talking about herself in the third person, that sounds. Healthy. ]

( Aren't you "her"? )

[ Wow, this sounds way too much like Third Impact to her. Or that time an Angel touched her mind. ]

( She is I. We are she. )

[ We: appendages writhing in the darkness. Amorphous things of muscle and slime. ]

( You were told: it's -- complicated -- )

[ A burble of laughter at how inadequate that word is to describing what Annie is and what Asuka feels in her now. ]

[ A part of her recoils at the 'feel' of those things crawling around just outside of her head. There's a fear that they'll pry their way in, just like that horrible being of light, and take her apart, piece by piece to see how she ticks. ]

( Complicated how? )

[ They would. The tendrils of this other-world would love to pick apart her fractures, just for the fun of it. Just out of morbid, sadistic curiosity to see the results. It lacked any particularly motivated malice, but it also lacked compassion, empathy. Those were Annie things, sometimes. Human things, to which these other voices make no claim and scoff at as often as possible, strange murmurings which follow Annie always.

She was more than herself long before the symbiote. This is the world she's lived in her entire life, and if Asuka doesn't like it, well... ]

( Welcome. To a taste of its frailty. )

[ 'It' is her human faculties. They love and respect the mind that is Annie, as it is also their mind, but when it came to the human brain, the human body, human emotion... well. Those were toys to be broken sooner rather than later.

The sooner the Annie body is broken and discarded the sooner she can be as one with her own truth, and completion can be achieved. ]

( It will be magnificent, when this body is dead. )

[ She had told Asuka, that she had tried to kill herself. Little wonder what pushed her. ]

( Shut up. )

[ Asuka retorts with more force than she thought possible. FOr a moment she pushes back, shoving against the thing that lurks under the surface with a mixture of rage and fear. ]

( Fucking freak. You don't belong-! )

[ That's all she knows. This isn't quite Annie. And it's not human, doesn't feel right. She already loathes it. ]

[ Fangs exposed in a half-moon smile, presence dancing back as it is pushed away by her, without any real resistance. A crooning reply, ]

( Too true. Just kill her. )

[ Problem solved. ]

( What if I kill you instead? )

( Destroy a world. Or destroy a girl. Your choice. )

[ Either way, it would end the duality, finally give priority to one or the other. It was just a whole lot easier to kill Annie than hunt out this alien world in the depths of the galaxy and end it. Could it even be done without irreparably harming Annie? Killing off parts of her mind and spirit, leaving behind an empty, wracked human?]

( I've killed monsters before. )

[ There's a lot of bravado coming from Asuka, even if she's partially right. But she doesn't know what to do yet. Or how to do it. ]

( Do it. )

[ It echoes from every direction, laughing. ]

[ Asuka finally cuts herself off, shoving her metaphorical hands over her ears. She's nto going to listne to his anymore. ]
