[Silence. Incredulity bursts, sharp, anger flowing clear and cold behind it.]

( Seriously? You think I'm pissed because I was hurt? )

[He hadn't been. It's laughable to think that he had. He'd chosen to go with her, and he's damned if he'll let her make it sound like he hadn't. Damned if he'll let her shake him off as just having a grudge; embittered victim. Kid.]

( Let me spell it out for you: you can play death wish ditch as much as you want when it's just you, but if you screw up on this mission, you're taking all of us with you. And there's no one coming with their hand held out to save any of us this time around. )

[ His anger meets her own incredulity. The shock of seeing one's own reflection but failing to recognize it. The very idea that she, whose very name stands to define the word survivor, should have a death wish, that he would rightly see her recklessness not as bravery but as fear. To fear life is to seek death, but the form that takes can be so deceiving. ]

[ No, no, lies won't do. She's a terrible liar anyhow. She takes a pause, a breath, before continuing on. ]

( Right. Gone alone, walked right into the enemy, and served us all up on a plate by letting them know we're here. )

[The idea that they're hidden is thin. If the enemy could target potential hosts on different worlds, what protected actual hosts? If they had an in-built alarm for when the enemy was nearby, couldn't the enemy have the same? But having a host wander into their hands, wearing the head-to-toe robes only one specific faction wore, would be like painting out a laser target for them.]

( But you didn't go alone, anyway. You took this guy. )

[It wasn't just about the dread. She could've just as easily have blown everything with this crappy scheme.]
